The proof is that several water descaling devices on the market exploit their complementary nature. This is particularly true of home osmosis systems and under-the-lever filters.
What to choose? Ceramic pearl and Binchotan carbon are two complementary compounds. When combined, they filter water better than when used separately. However, they are only effective if used to treat drinking water, so don’t expect a miracle if you immerse them in dirty water.
