Summer is often synonymous with sunshine and vacations, but also with mosquitoes, which can really spoil our days and evenings. During this period, these little insects have a nasty tendency to settle in and around our homes. If you’re planning to spend some quality time with your loved ones without having to constantly scratch yourself, there are a few tricks you can use to keep these insects at bay and enjoy the summer season with your family.
Opt for effective anti-mosquito solutions
There are many mosquito repellent creams and insect repellents on the market, but most of them contain toxic chemicals that are hazardous to your health. More natural alternatives exist:
- Mosquito traps: we distinguish between natural traps, electric mosquito traps and biogent traps. The latter have the reputation of being robust, easy to install and effective. They are the result of many years of research into mosquitoes, and have the particularity of acting only on harmful insects. Don’t hesitate to consult a mosquito control specialist to find out more about biogent traps, an alternative that’s both environmentally friendly and harmless to health.
- Citronella : it emits a scent that excites mosquitoes and encourages them to flee. Simply place a few drops of essential oil in a diffuser to dispel these pests.
- Clove: gives off a scent that immediately repels mosquitoes. For best results, cut a lime in half and insert 15 cloves.
- Vinegar: simply place a glass of vinegar on the various entrances to your home, such as windows, to keep mosquitoes out.
- Basil : a natural mosquito repellent. Placing pots of basil plants on windows or in the garden will drive the insects away.
The presence of mosquitoes can be very unpleasant, but a few simple gestures can go a long way towards preventing bites and having a good time. Use a mosquito net, remove stagnant water, fill a dish with soapy water or simply use a fan. The aim is to destroy the conditions favorable to their development.

Make your own mosquito trap
Mosquitoes love heat and humidity, which is why they often disrupt family life during the summer months. To avoid using insecticide bombs containing numerous chemicals, you can make a homemade mosquito trap. The technique involves making a container in which to mix sugar and baker’s yeast. The person in charge of making the trap will need to :
- Put on protective gloves
- Cut the bottle in half with a cutter and pour warm water into the bottom.
- Add sugar and stir until dissolved.
- Allow to cool and spread yeast over the surface of the water
- Turn the neck of the bottle upside down onto the part containing the mixture
- Cover the bottle with a sheet of black paper and tape in place.
This mosquito trap needs to ferment for about 2 weeks to be effective, during which time it can be used. Once this period has elapsed, it’s time to prepare a new mixture. It’s best to prepare the mixture in advance, so that you’ll always have a mosquito trap on hand.
