The same goes for any surface you might have stained, such as a wooden worktop, a table, the floor, or even your fingers!

Glue stains won’t stand up to our most effective tricks, and here’s the proof!

How do you remove glue stains from textiles?

There are many different types of glue on the market. Not all have the same properties, and not all are designed for the same uses. Here’s a summary of how to get rid of each of them on your textiles when the stain is recent.

1 – White glue stain

The most effective product for removing white glue from a surface is undoubtedly spirit vinegar. It can be used to remove glue from any type of textile (except delicate ones). It can also be replaced by 70° alcohol.

Simply pour boiling water over the glue stain and rub with hot vinegar. After rinsing, place the garment in the washing machine. When it comes out, the garment should be spotless.

2 – Epoxy glue stain

To effectively remove an epoxy stain from a garment, it’s essential to act quickly. To do this, remove excess glue with a spoon and place the fabric under hot water. Then immediately put the stained fabric in the washing machine.

Be careful with this type of glue, because if the stain is not removed quickly, damage to the fabric is possible and irreparable.

3 – Wood glue stain

Wood glue is very easy to clean from textiles. Simply pour hot water over the stain and rub with soap. Rinse and put in the washing machine on the usual cycle.

4 – Polyurethane glue stain

To dilute polyurethane glue, always use acetone or nail polish remover. Simply soak a cotton pad and pat the stain before rinsing and putting in the washing machine.

Tip: a very effective trick for removing glue stains from textiles is to use an iron. To do this, place two sheets of paper towel over the stain and run the iron over them. This melts the glue, which is then absorbed by the paper like a blotter. This technique can also be used on fragile fabrics such as silk, velvet or satin.

Good to know: if you get a glue stain on fur, the most effective technique is to rub it with a cotton pad soaked in methylated spirits. It’s radical, provided the glue is fresh.

How do I remove glue from marble or tiles?

If you’ve accidentally spilled glue on your tiled floor, or on a marble or granite worktop, you can remove it without damaging your surfaces. To do this, start by removing the excess glue with a paper towel. Then pour a few drops of edible oil onto the stain and use a wooden spatula to remove any remaining glue. After wiping, the result should be impeccable.

If this trick doesn’t work, you can try another method, which involves rubbing the stain with soap and water. Then use turpentine on a cloth to remove the remaining glue. It’s usually radical, and you’re left with a spotless surface.

If the glue stain is particularly stubborn, you can also try a mixture of turpentine and pumice stone.

How do you remove glue from your fingers?

When it comes to DIY, it’s not unusual to get a lot of glue on your fingers. Most glues wash off without any problem. But if this isn’t the case, don’t hesitate to use acetone or nail polish remover on a cotton pad and wipe until the glue is completely dissolved.

Then wash your hands with soapy water and you’re done!

How to remove glue from wood?

It can be frightening to remove glue from wood for fear of damaging the surface. However, it’s simply a matter of proceeding carefully and step by step, without damaging the wood’s surface.

First, remove the excess glue with a knife. Next, rub the stain with a soft cloth soaked in spirit vinegar. Finally, wipe with a clean cloth soaked in warm water. The result is generally impeccable.
